Sacraments & Rites

Baptism

Baptism is a sacred sacrament in the United Methodist Church, signifying God’s grace at work in a person’s life. Through baptism, we are affirmed as God’s beloved children, welcomed into the community of faith, and invited to live in relationship with Jesus Christ. It is both a personal and communal celebration – a reminder that God claims us even before we claim God.

Next Steps

At Grace Avenue, we celebrate baptism for all ages – infants, children, youth, and adults. If you or your child is ready to be baptized, here are the next steps:

  1. Contact Kristen Lane, Minister of Discipleship. Kristen will answer your questions and guide you through the scheduling process. You can email her at klane@graceavenue.org.
  2. Get baptized! Baptisms are celebrated during a Sunday worship service, with family, friends, and the church community joining in this joyful occasion. We can schedule a baptism for most Sundays at any 9:15am or 10:30am services.

Baptism is God’s invitation to life, love, and grace. No matter your age or stage of faith, it’s a moment to celebrate God’s presence and promise in your life. We would be honored to walk this journey with you at Grace Avenue.

Funerals

The death of a loved one is not meant to be faced alone. A Celebration of Life allows the grief to be carried in community, and often provides a comforting reminder that we are not alone – God is still with us.

As you begin making arrangements, Grace Avenue is here to walk through this process with you. Our clergy and church musicians are available to create a service that speaks to your loved one’s life and brings hope in the midst of their passing. To plan a funeral service at Grace Avenue, contact Rev. Laura Echols-Richter by emailing laura@graceavenue.org.
